    Default Photographs of dead babies

Photographing dead children was a common practice years ago during Late Victorian & Early Edwardian times. I knew some twat who worked for Boots developing photographic film, and some people still take photographs of their dead kids. Creepy.

Some of the pictures are creepy but bearing in mind that photography was for special ocassions only, they may not have had a picture of the child alive and wanted a momento of a loved one.

I know as a photographer I was once directed to a site where photographers offer their services free to people of stillborn babies. I understand as a parent having something to hold onto to remember your baby but I just couldn't do it, I was too afraid I would be crying the entire time.

A firiend of ours was expecting twins, a few years ago. At 7 months she was told that one twin had died but she had to go full term and then into labour naturally, and give birth to a live baby and a dead one. When we went to visit she had both babies in cots in her room, while she got over the loss. It was very sad and they had a little funeral too. But I don't know if they took any pictures.

Its a difficult one and should be left entirely to the individuals directly concerned. How the death of a child affects one is not something that can be anticipated and whatever a parent feels necessary to enable them to come to terms with the tragedy, or at least start the process of coming to terms with it, is fine by me... If a photograph helps or is held to be of help... who am I to say they are being creepy or freaky.

I can't figure out which one of the girls is alive or dead, I'm guessing the one with the closed eyes? The boy in the horse is just too frightening... like he was very scared. I don't think I would want a picture like that as I would remember the day and the "posing" of the body... too horrific. Who am I to say, though, I fortunately have never been through a tragedy of such proportions. I do not know how I could cope with such a thing.
