Nikita, not to be confused with the inferior Hollywood remake or the American TV show, was possibly
the picture which gave director Luc Besson his big break outside continental Europe.
'Nikita', played by Anne Parillaud, is a 19-year old drug addict who is arrested and sentenced to life in prison for the cold blooded murder of a police officer during a violent drug store robbery.
Whilst incarcerated Nikita makes a bargain with her captors to work as an assassin for the State. What follows is 90 minutes of Besson's trademark highly stylised action and violence! There is no over clever plot full of twists and turns, just high octane continental action beautifully filmed on location around Europe.
Besson is now better known for his Hollywood hits, Leon and Fifth Element, but this French dialogue classic still remains some of his best work, ever.
