Default Bad Taste

Bad TasteThis debut outing for legendary "Lord of the Rings" and "King Kong" director Peter Jackson might surprise one or two people. This extremely low budget sci-fi splatter pic is about as far removed from the epic landscape battles of Return of the King as you can get.

The film, released in 1987, was seemingly made on a shoestring. Jackson himself plays two lead roles, and the rest of the cast and crew are either also him, his family or friends. The film is set in a small New Zealand seaside town, whose inhabitants have all mysteriously disappeared. An SOS call is recieved by the emergency services, and the Alien Investigation and Defence Service is called into action arriving minutes later in a mark II Ford Capri.

This expert Government department then set about decapitating, mutilating and torturing anything that seems out of the ordinary, confident in the knowledge they are alien invaders, or as one character puts it, "extra-terrestrial wankers".

http://www.weeklyfilm.com/images/Moviepics/badtaste1.jpgWhen an unsuspecting member of the public is captured by the homicidal aliens, "The Boys" decide to embark on a rescue mission. Cue a blood and guts gore-fest, where the alien invaders (who are an intergalactic fast food manufacturer intent on selling homosapien burgers) are massacred by bullet and blade. And later chainsaw and bazooka, you get the idea.

This VHS "classic" is not to be taken too seriously. Jackson and Co were clearly having the time of their lives making this movie, Jackson even did all the gore effects himself. If you enjoy a little bit of light hearted disembowelment by chainsaw this film is for you, and once you've watched this I recommend you get hold of a copy of Braindead, Jacksons second film.

*To win your very own copy of Bad Taste, on glorious VHS of course, just PM me the answer the following question, along with the postal address you want it delivered to.

Question. Which Peter Jackson movie starred Micheal J Fox?

The winner will be announced next Wednesday, when you will be given another chance to win a VHS "classic".*
