• Andrei Chikatilo

In at number ten it's Ukrainian psychopath Andrei, The Rostov Ripper!
Andrei clocked up 53 kills during his career, all women and children. Andrei found the act of butchering people gave him an orgasm and developed a literal blood lust. His cannibalism was well documented, he liked to bite off his victim's nipples and genitals.

• Delfina & Maria de Jesus Gonzales

Next on our list is murderous duo Delfina & Maria. These two Mexican sisters ran a brothel later known as the Bordello From Hell. They trapped young women into working as prostitutes and murdered them when they became less lucrative. Wealthy visitors to the brothel were also mudered on occasion, when they were finally caught the bodies of eleven men, eighty women and several foetuses were discovered giving them a grand total of +91.

• Nikolai Dzhurmongaliev

In eighth place is Nikolai Dzhurmongaliev, otherwise known as Metal Fang due to his cool false teeth made from white metal. Another Soviet cannibal, Nikolai killed up to 100 women with an axe before dismembering them and serving them up at dinner parties to friends. Sent to a lunatic asylum in the early eighties, Nikolai was considered cured in 1994 and is now a free man living somewhere in Eastern Europe. Although thanks to the UK's current imigration situation he can probably be found picking vegetables in a field near you!

• Veerappan

Contoversial one this. Koose Muniswamy Veerappan was an Indian bandit, not a typical "serial killer" in the traditional sense. He had a Robin Hood like respect from villagers in the area he patrolled and was seen as a heroic avenger. In truth he murdered police and Government officials with a sideline in raping and kidnapping wildlife photographers. Before his death he racked up 184 kills.

• Donald Henry "Pee Wee" Gaskins

At number six we have comically named Pee Wee Gaskins. Pee Wee is South Carolina's most prolific killer. A well known paedophile and rapist he killed men, women and children indiscriminately in all manner of ways. His victims were found stabbed, drowned, shot or beaten to death. Estimates give Pee Wee a score of around 200 kills.

• Gilles de Rais

Gilles de Rais was a French nobleman in the 1400s and is considered the worlds first serial killer. He once fought alongside Joan of Arc, but turned his attention to the torture, rape and murder of approximately 200 young boys. Rais would lure young, blonde blue-eyed boys to his lair where he would rape and torture before decapitating them and putting their heads on poles to admire. He was eventually caught and hanged for his crimes.

• Herman Mudgett

Herman Mudgett, AKA H.H. Holmes or Dr. Henry Howard Holmes, was a qualified pharmacist and all round bad egg often cited as America's first ever serial killer. Mudgett began his killing spree when he opened a hotel in Chicago. He would choose victims at random and gas them in their beds, or lock them in an airless vault. As a sideline he performed back street abortions, many of which resulted in the deaths of the women. For an ingenious money spinner Mudgett would often strip the flesh from his victims and sell their skeletons to medical institutes. Although only 27 bodies were ever recovered Mudgett's death toll stands at around 230.

• Dr. Harold Shipman

Now, my old GP.

Doctor Harold was a much respected and liked GP in the town where I live. I visited him myself on a number of occasions and he was always very helpful. Which is perhaps why in 1998 the town was stunned to hear he had been arrested for multiple murders. Shipman's game was blown when a relative of one of his victims queried his name being added to her dead mother's will. I remember the following investigation well as bodies were exhumed from the local cemetery for examination. In all Shipman was held responsible for 250 deaths by injecting his victims with large amounts of diamorphine. Shipman reportedly killed himself in prison in 2004, but I suspect he's been freed to continue his good work in the medical profession.

• Pedro Alonso Lopez

Just missing the top slot is Colombian Killer, The Monster of the Andes, Pedro Alonso Lopez. Lopez was snatched by a paedophile at a young age and was regularly molested, his fucked-up upbringing is said to have led him into a life of crime. In the 1970's he peaked at raping and killing up to three young girls a day in Ecuador until he was finally caught. The police were initially sceptical of his confessions to 300 murders until a flash flood revealed a mass grave of his unfortunate victims.

• Henry Lee Lucas

And so to the numero uno serial killer in our list, Henry Lee Lucas. Lucas began his career like all good serial killers by murdering his mother. After serving ten and a half years in prison he then went for gold! Lucas listed his pastimes as bestiality, necrophilia, necrophilic bestiality, child molestation, arson and of course murder. Once confessing to over 3,000 murders the actual figure for Lucas' victims looks likely to be 350. He escaped the death penalty but died in prison of heart failure in 2001. He was immortalised in the film Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

Good 'ol Ed was the inspiration for texas chainsaw massacre and "Pogo the clown" (Gacy) is the reason most people fear clowns.
Ramirez was just a fucking nut-job, picking his victims at random.
