4,000 People A Week Trying To Leave Uk
4,000 PEOPLE A WEEK TRYING TO LEAVE UKBRITAIN is facing a mass exodus of people looking to escape the crime and grime of modern living.
The country’s biggest foreign visa consultancy firm has revealed that applications have soared in the last seven months by 80 per cent to almost 4,000 a week. Ten years ago the figure was just 300 a week.
Is it really as bad as the press make out, or has nothing much changed in the last few years?
If you're living in a country, it's so hard to see the changes going on around you, but as an outsider, I just seem to hear about the bad mostly. To be honest, the UK sorta scares me - it comes across very bad through the press and even though I know the country and very much doubt it could've changed that much in the three years since I've been gone, it still makes me thank god I moved when I did.
I know people are leaving - nothings changed there, but it's the numbers that I find quite shocking. I know why I left and it was nothing much to do with the country itself, but people seem to be leaving in their thousands within the last year.
As an insider, what would you say has changed so drastically in the last year or so to make people want to leave, or do you just think it's the modern thing to do and it has nothing at all to do with the country itself?

still loads more trying to get in, so it can't be that bad

Re: 4,000 People A Week Trying To Leave Uk
Yeah, I think that's the reason a lot of people give for wanting to leave.
I wonder why though? I was under the impression that the people arriving in the UK were fitting in by earning a living and paying into the system. I know there's been reports that people are being pushed out of jobs to make way for people who they don't have to pay as much, but I'm assuming that's just isolated cases.
In American, they can't employ a 'foreigner' over an American if the American is just as suitable for the job - but I don't think that's the case in the UK.

I suppose it depends where you live. It's fine up here and as long as they don't all want to come up here I am happy enough.

There are signs of the Brit exodus here in this village.
A few short years ago there were 2 Brit kids at the local school, now there are 48 attending!
This village and surrounding area has a population of just over 2000 inhabitants. When we arrived here 11 years ago there were about 40 Brits scattered around the whole area and all the local shops and businesses were Spanish.
We now have a self service grocers, 2 bars, a crap fish and chip shop, a '¿restaurant?' that does pizzas and other crap, an English second hand bookshop, all run by Brits. They've also formed a '¿Community?' to protect us, but from what I'm not sure!
Whatever, it's still a lot better than the UK!

Re: 4,000 People A Week Trying To Leave Uk
Yeah, I don't think I'd like that somehow SFB. Although it's sometimes really, really difficult here because of the language and 'home comforts' etc - I wouldn't want it to become 'a little England'. I know it will eventually, but at the moment there are very few Brits here. My son is the only English kid in his school and there is nothing available in English apart from one secondhand bookstall in the market.
This town is growing at an alarming rate though - but Brits aren't the ones moving in. It tends to be people from Northern France.

You can't blame people for making the attempt to escape from a ship with so many holes in the hull, I just wish they'd find somewhere else to settle than here.
