YouTube Giant rat killed in County Durham

Grandad Brian Watson killed the large rodent with a piece of wood near Consett, County Durham.

It was first spotted by the boyfriend of Mr Watson's granddaughter, while he was out cutting grass on a tractor.

In an interview with Sky Tyne and Wear, Mr Watson said: "I heard him shouting there was a large rat.

"I came running round the corner. I managed to grab some wood on the way."

"It wasn't very fast. I managed to kill it there and then.

"I've never seen a rat as big in my life before."

One reason why it was so big and slow is that it may have been pregnant.

"It was that big... I think it was due to drop young ones," said Mr Watson.
    What a cunt.

Durham Police said the pensioner may be investigated for his actions, while the RSPCA has urged people to contact them with concerns about animal cruelty.

Police officers will need more information about the animal and the circumstances surrounding its death before they can decide whether any crime has been committed.

A spokesman for the police said: 'We are aware of this incident and our officers will be looking into it in due course.'

In cases of animal cruelty, prosecutions can be brought by the RSPCA.

A spokesman for the charity said: 'We would urge anyone with more information about this incident to contact our cruelty line and we will look into it further.'

Coypu have bright orange teeth and are more like a giant guinea pig(cavey) in shape. That there rat in the picture is a chuffing great rat. They are being seen at more places over the last few years, leading to speculation that they are either the next evolution of the rat, or a new, as yet unidentified by science, type of rat. I hope that they are just freaks of nature myself, we have a bad enough rat problem in England as it is without them all "going giant" on us, the feckers!

I'm sorry, but I agree with the bloke who killed the giant rat. Rats are vermin and it don't matter whether it was a coypu or not as coypu are legally classed as vermin too. I'm sure that the radical animal rights protesters would change their tune if their houses/workplaces were infested by wild rats, even small ones, never mind a ferking big 'un.

living out in the wilds of Norfolk, we have rat problems on a regular basis, especially when there's been no really cold winter to kill them off. I shoot them with my air rifle when I see them on my garden, I don't want Weills disease or any other disease they carry thank you!
