Western health authorities have tried using all kinds of graphic warnings to put people off smoking including grotesque images of blackened lungs yet millions choose to ignore them.
Now Indian campaigners believe they may have cracked the problem by using a musical lighter that cautions tobacco lovers against sparking up with a death chant.
The electric lighter, which is fixed to the side of a street kiosk where - unlike in most countries - cigarettes are sold individually, blares out a Hindi funeral anthem each time the button is pressed.
