Charting Stupidity
Here In Britain we just love to gauge things. Put them in a chart of importance. A certain football manager has gauged his own importance and given himself the nom de plume "The Special One". Yeah right! Graceless man.
A young boy was on Radio 4 yesterday reporting how he was bullied at school because of the colour of his hair. "Ginger piss worm" was mentioned by his father, who also reported both he and his mother were also bullied for being "ginger". Three generations of hateful behaviour. This item is followed by two talking heads basically rubbishing the boy's experience because it wasn't tied in with the history of the slave trade had he been called a "black bastard". Dozens of generations of hateful behaviour.
What???????? Any child being bullied for whatever reasons merits equal attention.
Barack Obama - a black USA presidential candidate up against Hillary Clinton, is being criticised for having an ancestor some three hundred years ago who kept slaves. Presumably because his opponents cannot find anything more recent to damn him on. What??????? So a black man is to blame for all his forebears behaviour - even if it is for keeping slaves??????
Naomi Campbell is officially one part of the "most beautiful couple in Britain" -The Independent on Sunday recorded yesterday - Christian Bale is the other part. Yes, Naomi would figure well in the thread on this site of beautiful females and I admit I do not know the woman - but if half her recorded misbehaviour in the media is true - she is not beautiful except on the surface. Maybe fame has got to her.
Chat Daily cites Jade Goody one of the top celebrity mothers - how bad are the others?
Angelina Jolie was voted the sexiest screen icon on a Channel 4 Chart show and Damian Hirst is officially the greatest living artist - with his animals in aspic exhibits. Dah???? Hindsight is not used any more then - Angelina Jolie? There are some wonderful artist still alive and working in my view and Hirst isn't in my top 50 - if I had one.
Enough. These charts are as worthless as yesterdays fish and chip newspaper.![]()
Now put my view at the bottom of some chart.![]()
Re: Charting Stupidity
These days people can't function without pigeon holing or taking a popularity poll on everything. I don't mind this custom, it makes it all the more easy to go against the norm.
Regarding name calling, I see no difference in racial slurs and slurs on peoples appearance, the difference with me is that I see both actions as equal and unimportant. I don't believe all racial slurs are racially motivated and are as innocuous as calling someone a "ginger piss worm".![]()
Re: Charting Stupidity
Yes, I can concur now with the equality and I have said as much elsewhere.
But as a youngster, they (words) hurt and when hurt is seen, the youthful words user hurt you some more. Adults bringing in issues like the slave trade as an excuse.![]()
Someone has to police the playground at some stage. I did on my own behalf and made it to head 6th form prefect (I'm told - typical of me - I do not remember being a power hungry devil but I have it in writing)![]()
It's a jungle out there - so take care, people.
Re: Charting Stupidity
The heat has been taken off the black brothers for the moment Anan, it's 'rag heads' who're in the spotlight right now, apart from the odd shooting incident.
Re: Charting Stupidity
Kids will always call each other names, the only answer is to join them if you can't beat them. As you say, it only becomes a problem if you let it. Showing any weakness is a red rag to a bull(y).
Re: Charting Stupidity
Bullied children are rarely able to join the bullies.
Re: Charting Stupidity
I mean join in the name calling, of themselves and of others. Disarm the situation, if name calling is considered the norm the bullies will have no ammo.
Re: Charting Stupidity
In my own experience, bullies never let up.
Re: Charting Stupidity
Not in mine, if they don't get the results they want they will lose interest and move on to the next "victim".
Re: Charting Stupidity
No the bullies always deserved and got short shift from me.
At my school at least I remember a group of the bullied, me included. Reason for such attention - in no particular order, being overweight, stuttering, disfigurement from a horrific car crash, being black, being black and wearing a turban, wearing glasses, not joining in, not being cowed etc.![]()
I remember one fight with a bully that lasted a couple of years. After I bested him in the Secondary school playground - the same individual came back at me on a tube train in Central London when I was on my way to Olympia with my Catering School class. Stamping on me feet - he tried to goad me again. Luckily our station was reached and I exited with as much dignity as I could muster. I CONTROLLED MYSELF.How mature was that?

Trying to explain to my male and female classmates what that was all about was interesting though. I fancied a couple of them back then. Don't tell anyone though.I am sure I lost a girlfriend opportunity - my sort of woman does not like suspected thugs
