Murder trials have begun at last in Tanzania for the slaying of albinos.

Since the trend in albino hunting shot up about 18 months ago not one person has been held accountable for the crimes. Until now?

Just read a statement by the Burundi Red Cross about the albino killings. They reckon even the albino's own families are turning against them.

"We are two albinos in our family - my younger brother and I. One day our older brother came back from Tanzania with strangers. At nightfall, they hovered around our house as they watched us. Then they caught my brother and killed him," one albino child, on the verge of tears, told a Burundi Red Cross volunteer.

His dead brother's body parts were then sold off for 300,000 Burundian francs (about 250 US dollars). "We alerted the police, even though we were threatened. The authorities arrested [our older brother] but, for some reason, he was released shortly after. Now he is in hiding in Tanzania," he added.

All depends on how far the corruption has spread. If the government in Ghana are taking part in the killings what's to say the Tanzanian government aren't up to their necks in albino body parts?

It would seem only the wealthy and powerful can afford the fetish potions. And they've dragged their feet for months.

The court has heard how four men lured a mentally retarded albino man away from his home and drowned him before chopping off his legs and head to sell to witch doctors.

One of the accused was the victim's brother in law.

Dude, it happened all the time, those albinos are in demand in certain circles I imagine in Tanzania. Africa is bad news for any safe cracker. Stay in America if you are albino.
