No one will ever know because you just made it up off the top of your head. The only mention of his family hoping he'd harm himself came from you, where did you pluck that from?
Why did that mother run out of the house? Couldn't she have picked up another knife and stabbed her insane husband? Hit him over the head with a chair/(sledge)hammer/the hoover?
