Woman Killed By Pet Snake

A woman in Virginia has been found dead, lying next to an empty snake tank. Her 13 foot pet snake was loose in the room, and medical reports say she died from "neck compression".

You hardly need Sherlock Holmes to work this one out.

A mate of mine had an 18 foot python he kept under his bed. It went for his girlfriend once, but other then that it was fine.

Oh, except when it bit someone too.

I think constrictors can be more dangerous than venomous snakes. I certainly wouldn't want one near me, and of course they'll try to eat any other pets you have. Apparently they don't attack humans very often, but it is not unknown.

It all depends timey, some breeds of snake have been captive bred as pets for generations. They're practically domesticated. Some won't even touch live food, it's just become unnatural to them.

Some are wild caught though, and are exactly that, wild animals.

I think the snake in question here was under a lot of stress, and possible ill if it was receiving medication. I doubt it was even deliberate, I mean snakes only kill to eat and I doubt it was attempting to eat a grown woman.

That's true. There is no reason for one to kill a human really. I think a lot of these pets can get stressed from the environment. It needs tobe considered when people take these kind of pets on.

To be honest, I've heard that the reticulated pythons are notoriously ill tempered and don't make good pets. Considering how big they get people really should be more careful.

What purpose is there to having a snake as a pet anyway? You cant walk it or take it to the park or anything really. Just look at it through the tank window! Nice PET..... NOT!

Some folk like having exotic pets. Not my thing though, especially the eight-legged variety. The only eight-legged pets we've had was two cats.

I feel exactly the same.

Plus, I don't like any animals being taken from their natural environment, even if they are bred in captivity and no nowt else.
