I watched a TV show last week all about an alleged Satanic paedophile ring on one of the Orkney Isles that was investigated 15 years ago.

Several families had their children removed from the island by the authorities, but they failed to make any charges stick. The authorities, and some of the original "victims" still claim the ring did exist, despite the accused families still claiming their innocence.

Does this kind of shit actually take place do you reckon? It was like something straight out of a trashy horror novel. The local Vicar was said to have been the ring leader!

Reading some of the stuff on the case it seems one hell of a way to make money. As in the article I saw they were suing the the authorites for 5 figure sums.

It seems like the parents had a few months without their kids around they were having a jolly on the mainland. Then when the case was thrown out they were reunited so they sued for all they could get there hands on.

Interesting that the Court of appeal said they were wrong to throw out the case subsequently stopping any criminal investigation.

I suppose if they're confident enough to sue, there's little chance of them having done it?

The story seemed so bizarre that it couldn't have been made up! Why would a child dream that up?

Who knows but it seemed to come at a time when there were similar stories in the news:

Ayreshire and Rochdale both had similar cases in 1990.

It probably does happen and probably did certainly lot of opportunity probably could be some sort of "wicker man" scenario especially in such an isoloated place like the orkneys

All stories have a bit of truth in them. Where do you think the writers got the inspiration?

This is the first I've heard of it but then that's not to say that it didn't happen. Very strange indeed.

Reminds me of that island (sorry I forget where now) where all the island inhabitants are related because they have incesturious (sp? sorry) relationships and marry their own family members.

They say life is stranger than fiction so I wouldn't be surprised if it's true?

Life is stranger than fiction because the imagination of writers has yet to catch up with the trillions of possibilities as yet unknown to the masses, or simply forgotten.
