US Election Coverage on TV
BBC
The BBC is presenting a single programme - US Election Night on its flagship British and American television services: BBC One, BBC News, BBC World and BBC America will carry the David Dimbleby-fronted show from 11:15pm to 6am GMT. Joining Dimbleby will be World News America anchor Matt Frei and veteran US journalist Ted Koppel.
Instead of focusing on precinct-by-precinct results, World News America executive producer Rome Hartman - who previously worked at CBS in the same role on Katie Couric's CBS Evening News - told mediabistro's TVNewser that the BBC will offer "the sophisticated, smart view" instead of "bells and whistles".
CNN
CNN International will simulcast live coverage from CNN US starting at 11pm GMT - 6pm Eastern, one hour before the first polls close. Election Night in America will broadcast from CNN's HD broadcast facility in New York and be anchored by Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and Campbell Brown.
Chief national correspondent John King will show county-by-county results on the touch screen "magic wall" to explain CNN's projections in each state, while Soledad O'Brien and Bill Schneider will show exit polling data from all 50 states on two 103in touch plasma screens. A raft of analysts - dubbed "the best political team on television" - will offer comment as the evening progresses with live reports from Senator Obama's headquarters in Chicago and Senator McCain's headquarters in Phoenix.
Sky News
Jeremy Thompson will anchor Sky's election night results programme from New York starting at 11pm GMT. Additional coverage from originate from Senator Obama's headquarters in Illinois and those of Senator McCain in Arizona, plus views from an election night barbecue held by Andrew Wilson at the Sky News White House in Miami. Anna Botting will be stationed at a polling station in San Francisco, which closes at 5am GMT. Martin Stanford will track results from each state in a touch screen results centre and Adam Boulton will offer analysis from Washington, DC. Sky's coverage will continue at 6am GMT with a special edition of Sunrise anchored from the US.
Sky News head John Ryley said that the broadcaster's US election coverage "is one of the biggest overseas operations Sky News has ever put on".
ITV
Sir Trevor McDonald will anchor a special edition of News at Ten from Washington, DC before handing over to ITV1's live results show running from midnight to 4am, presented by Alistair Stewart in London and Julie Etchingham in New York.
CNBC
CNBC in the UK will blend coverage from an election night party in London with coverage from CNBC US and MSNBC. A special Your Money, Your Vote programme will air from 11pm to 3am GMT, anchored from New Jersey with reports from London and Singapore. From 3am to 6am GMT, CNBC will simulcast coverage from MSNBC before handing over to Worldwide Exchange. On Wednesday, CNBC will carry extended live programming from the US before returning to European programming at 4pm.
FNC
Brit Hume and Chris Wallace will anchor coverage for Fox News - available on digital satellite in the UK - from the channel's headquarters on New York's Sixth Avenue. A rear-projected screen will tally results over the anchors' heads and Bill Hemmer will be on hand to analyse county-by-county results on his version of John King's "magic wall" - the "Bill Board". Correspondent Bret Baier will use virtual reality technology to look at the Congressional balance of power. FNC's coverage begins at 6pm Eastern, 11pm GMT.
