80s has-beens Bucks Fizz, who won the highly acclaimed Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, are going to appear in some shitty new reality show called Pop Goes The Band which will be on Living TV next month. The show follows several 80s bands as they undergo fitness training, make overs and even more extreme, cosmetic surgery! Then they will be hurled back on stage to try and resurrect their long lost musical careers.
Here they are pictured last night at some Living TV promotion. It's not the original line-up, it's Bobby Gee, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston who were three of the original members. And the other woman is Shelley Preston who actually replaced Jay Aston when she quit in 1984. The other bloke who was in the group, Mike Nolan, is wisely steering clear.
Bucks Fizz
The Daily Mail were quick to point out that Preston and Aston are both showing off their tanned slim legs, but Cheryl Baker looks "matronly" and has struggled with her weight. Which was nice of them.
The thing which amazed me was I thought Jay Aston died in a coach crash!
Obviously not.
The other losers in the show are rumoured to be Bananarama, Visage, soul diva Chaka Khan and teen bands 911 and Cleopatra. Cleopatra? They were only about munching 12 when they were in the charts, fancy putting them up against these other old timers. I've no idea which line-up of Bananrama will be on the show, be interesting to see those old slappers.
The freak out of Dollar, David Van Day is supposed to be in the show too. He's like Bucks Fizz's arch-nemesis isn't he? He tried stealing their name and being the new Bucks Fizz. They should fight.
The Nolans refused to do the show.
