Channel 4 have secured the rights to Big Brother until the year 2010 in a deal worth up to £180m. An agreement was reached by channel 4 along with makers, Endemol UK after ITV expressed an interest with the hit reality show. Seven series's have been made of the UK Big Brother which is quite popular, as the last series' finale was watched by from up to 8.3 million viewers. The Big Brother spin-offs, Celebrity Big Brother, Big Brothers Little Brother and Big Brothers Big Mouth will be back, along with E4's Live streaming.

Channel 4 commissioning editor, Angela Jain said: "Channel 4 is the spiritual home of Big Brother. It remains the ultimate reality format and continues to deliver dramatic innovative viewing as one of the UK's most talked about television programmes."

While Big Brother has been derided by critics as low brow, it has always been a constant ratings performer. Big Brother 7 managed to attract an average audience of 4.7 million viewers. Previous series's have had an average 4.5 million viewers.

How the hell can "Big Brother" now be classed as a reality show.
Maybe the first series, but the contestants are now so atypical as to defy belief that they are in anyway normal

How would you know Six, unless you've bothered to study it as representational of the modern need for non entertainment demanded by those who have become accustomed to the lack of imagination shown by TV presenters?

It astounds me that such a programme is classed in the same 'reality TV' terms as X Factor, but has so much less to offer in the way of talent, there is no similarity whatsoever?

There always seems to be at least one reasonably normal person on Big Brother, so you can see how they react to the freaks.

Oh what fun, not! Waiting for somebody to play the fool and enjoying the reaction of a possible sane person (unlikely) is akin to watching grass grow or paint dry.

If you don't watch X Factor, how can you comment??? If you do and haven't seen any talent, it's possibly because your idea of talent is different to the average persons.

I've seen X-Factor, and Big Brother. Both are full of talentless half-wits, chosen by a panel for their cringeworthy entertainment value.

Some of those talentless halfwits have become rich talentless halfwits, so maybe not everyone shares your opinion?

That doesn't change the fact that they're all talentless half-wits. It just illustrates how stupid the general public are.

Voting for pissed up arsepipes, or piss-poor performers, it makes no difference to me. They're all just sucked in by the great eye of the living room, I doubt you would pay to go and watch these X-Factor spunk weasels, until they get TV exposure and people then suddenly agree that TV exposure = talent.

You can go and watch bad singers like on X-Factor at any working men's club, anywhere in the country on a Saturday night back here in Blighty. Maybe you shouldn't have left, we've got talentless wannabies galore over here!

Fact is that X Factor has discovered decent talent that would otherwise have been left undiscovered.
The fact that in some ways you're a young, free thinker leaves you in a situation that is temporary and I promise you that your thinking will change, of that there is no doubt!

The fact is they haven't found any decent talent, it's all pap. The likes of X-Factor finalists are ten a penny, it's just a cheap marketing ploy.
