The chef Ainsley Harriott did a "Who do You Think You Are?" programme a couple of weeks back and it was fascinating viewing. Lies told within families etc. But it was the fact that there had possibly been - or actually was a family member that had dealt with slaves in there way back. I think I got that right. because earlier Ainsley had been faced with family members being badly treated by the same profession - slave traders.

What to do? Hope for better in the future Ainsley.

Those sympathetic to his opponants reportedly tried to slur Barack Obama with that fact - the awkward ancestor and I burst out laughing.

All this came to mind in a BBC 4 - Michael Portillo talking to a cross section of America about USA politics and its relationship with Hollywood and films and TV.

Came to mind when I think a speech writer suggested Obama could have been other than a black American once he reached the country by his choices of wife and church!

She was put down very quickly and well by someone else around the table. Mixed race means nothing - I mischievously thought of trying selling my white side to bigots. Look at that bloody photo again. What do you think?

If we are not one thing only - we of mixed race all default to "The Dark side" to a certain mentality.

"Ragheads" was also used somewhere in that plush dining room about what a lot of Americans might think.

An awful and easy dismissal of wonderful overseas historys.

Arrogance - I have in the past been and will be guilty of that in the fuiture but I hope I will never forget history.

Being married to a foreigner helps.

But it was the thought that the female speechwriter actually believed that Barack Obama's whole life would be seen only as making choices of who he is acceptable to in political elections!

"He never asked me for my vote!" That lady at the convention weeks back.

See why I would make a lousy politician and I know it is a terribly hard job to do well?

And how does truth of something get so corrupted?

Watching another family search on TV last night - a knight, a shipbuilder and an all round good egg was exposed by an ancestor on TV as a convicted food horder during World War One and a buyer of an honour.

There were rumours, newspaper articles and two not too nice letters held in The Houses of Parliament about the chap - immediate access given to enquirer.

The surprised and gracious ancestor with BBCs help and many history experts of course got there seemingly very quickly. But it hardly seemed to stretch the experts anyway.

But someone else say is encouraged to keep verifying themselves for months on end and does so. And finally cries ENOUGH!

And is seemingly criticised if they dare refuse. Truth is truth - it can get buried, distorted but if you are willing to look hard enough - there it is pristine.
