Dancc[/URL]]I really hope Ofcom make the right decision in regard to Sky wanting to remove their free channels from Freeview and replace them with pay ones, by FORCING BSkyB to keep Sky News on the platform at the very least.
I don't care about Sky Three and Sky Sports News, they're not much of a loss in comparison - the void left from Sky Sports News may well be filled before too long by a rival channel from Setanta and Virgin Media, meanwhile Virgin 1 has been confirmed for the Autumn which will more than fill the gap left by Sky Three, as like Sky Three it will provide a mixture of the best bits from the other VM channels, but also plenty of it's own first run programming as well. (How it should be done)
My only concern is the removal of Sky News. Whilst one sports news channel is more than enough for Freeview, I strongly believe that we need more than one news channel.
BBC News 24 is excellent, I know, and I do watch it myself occasionally. But personally I prefer Sky News. I'm not sure why, but it's always been my preference. I drifted away from it for a while, but now it's my most watched news channel again and I tune in on a daily basis. It seems to me to be at the top of it's game right now, and so it would be a huge loss for me and many other Freeview viewers if it was removed, I'm sure.
Whilst graphically News 24 and Sky News have become very similar in recent years, the style of reporting and news presentation is still very different. And like I said before, I much prefer the latter overall.
We have already lost one news channel on DTT, to lose another would be dreadful IMO.
