Do I want an iPad?

For anybody who hasn't realised yet, I'm a bit of a gadget freak; and just lately I've been looking at the iPad.

Thing is, will it actually benefit me in any way?

For those of you that either have one, or know a lot about them, can you let me know the advantages and disadvantages etc.

It depends on what you want to use it for. I think it is really intended for people on the move, as an alternative to a netbook. Only problem is, I remember Ck saying that you can't use it with a dongle, so for me a netbook is better. So, apart from just the fun of having one as a gadget freak, the iPad isn't for me. If I was going to spend the money I think I would rather get an iPhone, which can be used in a similar way on the move anyway.

I use mine in the kitchen or in bed to browse the internet, you tube stuff on it's good. I find it easy to type on even though it's touch screen. I've not got a laptop though, my main computer is at a desk with an upright chair so the iPad is my portable device.

I'm gonna get the dongle and adaption thing sorted out over Christmas, some sort of carry case for it too. I was hoping to have sorted it by now but cos of the postal backlog i'm gonna eave it till after Chrimbobs.

Personally I go for a netbook at a similar price, because I get more from it, but that's just me.

Yeah, i've not looked into it properly but there is a way round it. It's something to do with a USB adapter (cos it doesn't already have a USB port)

I don't know whether it's just an Apple thing, but the battery life on it is really good, far better than a laptop (or at least a non Apple laptop because I don't know about them). My son uses his in the car and just piggy backs off my husband's phone and then waits until he's at home to use the Wifi to download stuff that takes longer.

It probably is similar to having a netbook, but I'd assume it was more lightweight and stylish and the fact it flips the picture is useful. That's all I can say because I've never really used one. It's my son that has one, but he takes his with him everywhere, mainly for games, video and music for when he's in the car. I've only used it once to post a message on here while I was in the hospital and it took at least 25 minutes to write a couple of English words wrongly French accented using the touch screen. I think that's down to age and not being hip and down with the new technology so not having a clue, rather then it being difficult though. My son offered to do it, but I refused to be beaten.
