windows movie maker and importing video
I am wanting to upload some music to youtube and wanted to put it to some kind of video
I was going to use some rally footage from a DVD I have but movie maker won't import it
The only video I have ever successfully imported to movie maker is from my video camera, I really can't be arsed shooting a load of footage just for that
Anyone got any suggestions?
Re: windows movie maker and importing video
You need a program that rips dvd. Once its ripped and converted to a format that movie maker can work with like mpeg for example, the rest is easy. I have never ripped from dvd so cant help you with a prog but I have no doubt that the helpful souls on here will come to your aid!
Re: windows movie maker and importing video
well it looks like youtube have fucked things up again
when you upload music it now has some automatic clipping thing that tries to keep the sound at one level, so on my last video it sounds like someone is moving the volume up and down all the way through
stupid bastards

Re: windows movie maker and importing video
There are, as Hutchy says, apps to rip DVD from a disk and change the format for use in WMM. I did it myself not long ago. Can't remember the app as it's at home but I'll have a look when I get back if you like. It's not an easy process though.

Re: windows movie maker and importing video
would dvdflick be any good, i use it to convert from avi so that it plays in normal dvd player

Re: windows movie maker and importing video
I tried it but it wouldn't go the other way, i.e. convert from DVD format to mpg.

Re: windows movie maker and importing video
Its just compression Jools. When you compress a track too much it makes it sound like the volume is going up and down. If you imagine 10 sounds playing at once in a very small space, they all have limited space to play in so they are quiet but if 5 of them stop playing the other 5 get louder as they now have more room. That is whats happening through the track.
I use a larger mp3 (160kbps - 192kbps) for youtube because if a track isnt compressed too much before uploading, once they compress it during uploading it should sound ok.

have a look at this, its a recent thing. I have uploaded with no probs in the past

Re: windows movie maker and importing video
I have noticed that but I thought it was something that I was doing! What I said before still applies though. To alleviate the problem I just made the sound file larger so that when they compress it, it still sounds ok. Because if you have a small mp3 which is already heavily compressed and they compress it again on upload, it is going to sound like shite!
If you can rip the audio fron a cd and save it as .wav then create the mp3 yourself then try using a 192kbps mp3 or larger. Worked for me...
