There was a programme on radio 4 or the world service in the middle of the night I listened to about a year ago - one night I couldn't sleep.
The theme was domestic violence around the world. They discussed India and that many women (even those happy to go along with an arranged marriage) end up in violent marriages that due to society they cannot get out/divorce.
One women was interviewed as she was one of the few who financially could leave and flee to relatives over here. But she was extremely fortunate that some relatives over here were happy to take her in. Most of her family shunned her and since she refused to return they had now disowned her.
I am not aware of statistics so I'm not saying ALL arranged marriages will be unhappy but it is a sad fact that their society will actively discourage a woman leaving a man who beats her up.
Arn't there a few charities (in this country) set up specifically for Asian women trying to leave domestically violent situations because of the very fact that leaving the marriage is so frowned upon in certain cultures?
Edit - how the hell did a thread on Jodie Marsh get so serious???
