Former political journalist John Sergeant has decided to pull out of the BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing.

I honestly didn't know - but he must have made his decision before I sounded off on the Music forum. Mustn't he?

Oh the guilt I feel because I may have been the last straw that stopped John (Travolta) Sergeant tripping the light fantastic until he won the thing.

He is a gamer though.

I watched John on the news and then Mandelson indicate it would be nice to be asked

and - I thought I couldn't be "Kilroy Silked" Get me outta here!

Top Hat - I thought - Fred Astaire - you should be "stayin alive" today to see how far dancing has come since you and Ginger, Gene Kelly et al left the stage.

But then the latter did dance with a cartoon character didn't he?

And talking about An Merrick/Caine in Paris (A CSI elephant man never quicksteps in the Hilton) - go and tell Cyd. I think s/he is tied to a horse somewhere! Spanish practices, eh?

Apparently he was quite bad, but the viewers kept him in.

There's two ways of looking at this, on the one hand he was a shit dancer ( I was unfortunate enough to see some of the show this weekend, and there's no doubt he was complete crap ) and he really was making a mockery of the show. The other contestants work really hard, practicing for hours on end to perfect their moves, The Sarge just strolls in and arses about for three minutes, takes a bit of stick and leg pulling off the "judges" then gets kept in anyway. You can see why the show's producers, and the other contestants and judges might be getting a pit pissed off about it. I suppose it does ruin the concept of the show.

On the other hand, the wankers should've realised this when they devised the rules. The Sarge has doen nothing wrong, and rather than a serious dance competition Strictly Come Dancing has always just been light entertainment. With that in mind Sergeant has been giving the best value for money.

The other thing is, all the people who voted for him could now feel cheated.

I think they do feel cheated. As someone said on It Takes Two tonight, John shouldn't have agreed to go on the show if he didn't intend to go through with it for as long as he was kept in. I'm not sorry to see him go, but I am not happy with the manner of his leaving. I also feel for his dancing partner, Kristina Rihanoff. She was in tears on It Takes Two tonight.

Maybe he'll change his mind, he's still on the show on Saturday.

If not I think we should riot.

Yeah, some reports were suggesting he might still have a change of heart. We'll see.

On the news I heard them going on about him being bullied, Cilla Black was munching bleating on about it.

Firstly, I think it's patronising to suggest that The Sarge could be a victim of bullying. Secondly, I saw the show on Saturday and it looked to me like everyone was beginning to accept John and the fact he was going to win.

Agreed. He stood up to Maggie Thatcher after all.
