Carroll Shelby legendary racer and car builder dies

Carroll Shelby, a Texas chicken farmer turned hot-rodder who went on to build innovative sports cars like the Cobra that challenged Europe’s longtime dominance of road racing as well as high-performance versions of production cars like the Ford Mustang, died on Thursday in Dallas. He was 89.

there was the "Shelby " Cobra and the "AC" Cobra both almost Identical I think apart from the engine??? or was one a factory build and the other a Kit please put me out of my misery Jools

The car originally was the AC Ace. Carroll Shelby bought the cars from AC in the UK, widened and strengthened the chassis, put a Ford 260 cubic inch (4.2 litre) V8 in it and it became the Shelby Cobra. Over here we still call them the AC Cobra, but the Americans have always dubbed it the Shelby Cobra. It eventually built up to a 427 cubic inch (7 litre!!) Cobra which was given the nick name 'Widow Maker' because they were pretty good at killing their unskilled owners
