Birmingham City win League Cup

Birmingham City have won the League Cup after defeating Arsenal 2-1 at Wembley. After Zigic put the Blues ahead in the first half, Van Persie equalised for Arsenal just before half time, after some lovely footwork by Arshavin. The second half was a tense affair with both sides coming close including a shot hitting the woodwork for Birmingham. The deciding moment came in the 88th minute after a monumental cock-up between Arsenal defender Koscielny and goalkeeper Szczesny, allowing the ball to fall to the unmarked Martins for an easy shot into the goal. Birmingham's only previous major trophy win was in the same competition when it was still finding its feet in 1963, and this is Alex McCleish's first trophy south of the border. Great to see our former Aberdeen hero winning something at last. They still have a battle on their hands though to stay in the Premier League this season.
