Default Chipping in for a gift

What's the going rate nowadays for chipping in towards a present? When I worked in an office it was 1 or 2, but obviously that was years ago so would probably be classed as tight now. It was yorkshire though, so it could've been classed as tight anywhere else even back then.

They're collecting for my daughter's teacher, there's about twenty in the class, so what would be classed as an okay amount?

It's income related, so you owe 563.72

One of the other parents was asking for 10. I was just wondering when it jumped from 2.

I'd say it has to be a note, so a fiver minimum.

We still do a quid where I work

Although I've done collections for people and from an office of 40 we can still end up with less than 20

If I worked in an office I'd be tempted to put a paperclip in the collection envelope!

    Haha, that's just tight.

I think the 10 we've given is for two teachers, not one, so it's not that much. Wages here are very low, so I was surprised how much they were asking for.
