I was driving into work the other morning, at about 05:30 and got held up by loads of sets of traffic lights when there were no other cars on the road.

Yeah, it's been tried in some places where they switched off the lights to see what happened and traffic flowed much better. I hate traffic lights and they are multiplying in Aberdeen at an exponential rate. One road about half a mile long that is on my route to work used to have no lights at all on it. Then they put lights in at one junction, and then added another junction for new houses and an industrial area. Once the new Western Peripheral route is complete, which will feed into this particular road, there will be a further three sets of lights added within about 100 yards of each other, so five sets of lights in half a mile. It will not improve traffic flow one bit I reckon.

The worst are traffic lights on roundabouts. Make your fucking minds up.

Traffic here is bad and the driving is really bad, but there's not many traffic lights. When the electric goes off a lot of the lights do too, so the wardens get sent out to direct traffic. You see them in panic trying to use their hand movements to keep traffic safe and moving, yet dead on lunch break time it doesn't seem that important anymore because they just walk off and leave people to it. It always seems to move much better when they leave.
