Yes, schools don't provide anything, it was the same in France. You get a list of what to buy, it's not optional. The text books they give out are on loan, but at the end of the year you pay a bit towards wear and tear for them. I can't remember whether that's here as well, you definitely pay a bit towards them in France. My son even has to take money for any printed handouts he gets off the teachers here. I can't remember how much they charge, but they charge per sheet.

I don't think some people here know how lucky they are.

I wonder if it's the same in the UK now? I didn't have to buy books or anything when I went to school.

In Malta they don't even heat or air condition the schools, so they save money on that, that's why they go back so late. It's very hot in the school at the moment, so they're told to take plenty water, but in winter it's very cold with damp air. It's so cold inside buildings in Malta that you have to go outside to get warm in winter.

The teachers wear coats and most of the staff have a scarf or something on as well, but the kids can't have coats. They have two uniforms, a summer one and a winter one, the winter one has a blazer and jumper so that's all they've got to keep them warm. My son said it gets to a stage where it's that cold that you just go numb and don't feel it after a couple of hours. I'm hoping they do something more at the primary school because they don't have blazers, just the jumpers.

Yes, I've noticed that in Mallorca when we were there in April last year. It was quite chilly indoors at night with no heating, and warmer outside, unless you were in the shade and there was a breeze, as the evening breezes were quite cold. In Lanzarote it's even worse in the winter, as although it can be very warm during the day, if it's windy at night it can be quite cold. I'm quite happy with that though.

Just had an email from the school, they want 25 sending in an envelope for my daughter's printouts and photocopies. I was wondering how they were going to do it because my son pays as he gets them. It's so weird the way they don't subsidise anything at all.
