    Default Migrant crisis

Is it not all a bit scary at the moment?

Why is there all this extra media coverage, has anything different happened recently? I don't keep up with everyday news, I try to stay in a bubble as much as possible.

Since moving to Malta this has always been in the news though, long before the photos pulling at the heartstrings of kids washing up on the beach. What's changed? Malta and Italy were screaming out for help for years, but it didn't really seem to hit the headlines in the UK until now. A month or two ago I was reading comments in a Maltese newspaper and most from the everyday person were saying 'why isn't the world seeing this and why is nobody helping us to help them'. Then when Greece started to hit the headlines a bit more it changed to empathy for Greece. Malta has an massive area just for refugees, it's huge, they don't seem to be able to cope with any more so Italy was getting the majority of them heading this way.

The world seems to be seeing now, but it's not the same photos that I was seeing months ago. It all seems to be women and children and really going all out to make people feel heartless if they question what is happening. What's changed in the last couple of weeks? Haven't they been risking their lives to get away for a long time now?

The pictures of a drowned child I think is what has changed the media coverage at least, because I think most people's views on it deep down have not changed, except that some may have changed from apathy to being seen to care more about the situation. Apart from that I don;t know. It seems like there are more migrants now, but that might just be because of the increase in media coverage.

I noticed some people are likening it to Troy and the Trojan Horse.

We seem to be getting a new media frenzy every week

I'm really not a fan of it at all

The refugee crisis has been this way for ages. People dying every day and no one giving a shit because there was a different media frenzy last week. Bird flu, or isis or something. I don't understand what happened to balanced, objective journalism.

The refugees need help, like they have done for months. It's not this week's problem. The worst part is this will be forgotten about in a week or so because we'll have some other news story to panic about

I can see why. I think when you bombard the public with images like they're doing, it could get a bit dangerous and would be easier to do. I mean you've got people saying they'll take them into their own homes, that's just madness.

I feel for the genuine refugees, not just the children but all of them, it is heartbreaking but it's been happening for years.
