    Default Predator Experience

For my birthday last year CK bought me a voucher for the Predator Experience Walking with Wolves encounter, based near Cartmel in the Lake District.

Dee and Daniel who run the company offer lots of different experiences, you can meet the wolves, birds of prey, snakes, spiders, and foxes. Hopefully in the near future you will be able to meet their cheetahs and take them for a walk through the Lake District.

Well we wanted to meet the wolves up close, there were two timber wolf hybrids called Maska and Kajika. I forget now which one was the alpha, I think it was Maska. We got to spend an hour with both of them, just walking through the countryside whilst Dee and Daniel told us all about wolves, how they differ from domesticated dogs, and how they are similar to domesticated dogs. Plenty of opportunities to take photos and record some video footage.

I think there is usually a chance to run with the wolves off the leash, however they've took to stalking local deer and cattle and it was a bit too risky to let them run free yesterday.

Each wolf was a good size, over 50kg, so about twice the size as Spud. They were surprisingly well behaved though, despite the fact it was explained to us they weren't trained, and can't be trained.

The wolves like to say hello by jumping up and licking your face, but if you simply placed the palm of your hand on their heads they would stay down and not make a fuss. You could stroke and pet them, but they weren't really interested in that. They don't roll over for you to tickle their tummies, they mostly kind of ignore you.

I was wearing the stuff I usually wear to walk Spud and there were all kinds of smells on my coat and trousers that the wolves were very interested in, so I got quite a lot of attention. At one point we bumped into a chap walking his Shih-Tzu, Maska and Kajika were very excited to see them.

We intend going back again another day when the cheetah experience is all up and running, plus I want to see the foxes too.

Here's some photos, and I should have some video to post later too.

It sounds like quite a unique experience. I can't wait to see some video!

Do they just walk the same as a dog would on the lead?

    I love the howling!

Did they do anything to get them to start doing it, it sounds like they maybe did from the video?

Oh yeah, they had to start the howling off and the wolves joined in. What a racket.

Only their home smells, because they mark their territory. The wolves themselves weren't stinky at all.

If anyone gets the chance please sign this petition to get the cheetah housing planning permission. Nice one.
