Default Shoes on, or shoes off?

What do you wear on your feet around the house and what do you expect guests to do?

I'm bare foot as often as possible, so never wear footwear in the house. I don't mind what other people do, but I do tend to look at their shoed feet and think they'd be much more comfortable shoeless.

I keep trying to get my son to go bare foot around the houses, but he always wears socks. He said that if he doesn't wear socks he'll get dirty feet. I asked him what dirt was he meaning and he said dust.

I feel a bit funny taking my shoes off in other people's house though. I do, but I'm never sure whether I should or not.

We wear slippers, or just socks ("stocking soles" as my mum always called them ), or bare feet, but never shoes. Visitors usually wear shoes but I'd rather have a policy of people taking their shoes off at the door, but that would be considered weird by my "conservative" relations. It would be better for the carpets and floors as well not to get rain and mud and other detritus from outside on them.

We've not had carpets for a long time, so dirt doesn't bother me. My mum used to put her feet up on the furniture while wearing her shoes though and that really annoyed me. You can't really say anything though. I could never put my feet up on furniture with footwear on.

When you get told to 'hop up on the bed' at the doctors or the hospital, I always bend down to take my shoes off and get told not to bother. It just feels so wrong climbing up there with shoes on though.

The answer to any question is always shoes on.

My dad swam in shoes while smoking a cig once. We were walking the long way round some water, but he decided it'd be quicker to swim across. He did it in his Crocs with a roll up in his mouth and another behind his ear.
