Default Where will you be in 20 years time?

If you go back about twenty years, or less if you're under 40, where did you expect to be and how does it match up to where you are now?

All I wanted was a family and an old stone brick house, so I've achieved half of what I wanted. Moving out of the UK had never even entered my head twenty years ago, so I'd be shocked if someone told me I would live in at least two different countries twenty years ago.

I don't think an old stone brick house is even me anymore.

I remember in the early 90's thinking I'd be married with kids and a decent sized house by the year 2000

When did you start wanting to live outside of the UK, or is that a recent thing?

I don't think I had any idea where I would be now back in 1995. I probably thought I would be somewhere in the Aberdeen area, as I am, but the thing I would not have known is my change of career from insurance to IT. That happened three years later, when I gave up my job and committed to being a single income household and a student at university for four years. It seems such a scary thing to do that I have no idea how we managed it.

You don't get far if you don't take a few risks though, Timey.

Oh, I know, but I am not generally one for risk taking and this was the biggest one imaginable. And after a year we were on our uppers looking at the last few quid we had, but luckily I got a job in the nick of time. But I knew it was the right thing to do though, no matter what happened, as I wasn't happy in the old career. Plus I had the full support of Mrs Timey, without whom I could not have done it.

When I was a child, I thought i would have a job, my own house and my own car.

But now I just sat on my arse thinking of those things to come.
