Default Kurds and Yazidis fight for Sinjar!

Iraqi Kurds, Yazidis fight IS for Sinjar

SINJAR, Iraq - Kurdish and Yazidi fighters battled to take the strategic northern Iraqi town of Sinjar back from Islamic State on Sunday after breaking a month-long siege of the mountain above it.

Seizing the town would restore the majority of territory Iraq’s Kurds lost in the jihadist group's surprise August offensive.

It would also give a huge strategic victory to both the Iraqi Kurds and the central government in Baghdad, as the Kurdish fighters could then cut the highway from Syria to Mosul, a vital supply line for Islamic State.

Backed by US warplanes, Iraqi Kurdish and Yazidi fighters, also joined by Kurdish guerrillas from Syria and Turkey, pushed into Sinjar from the western border post of Rabia and from Sinjar mountain to the north, to which Iraqi Kurdish fighters opened a corridor on Thursday.

BBC Kurds 'seize key Kobane district'

Kurdish fighters battling Islamic State (IS) in Kobane, northern Syria, have seized a key district and now control 80% of the town, activists say.

Kurds backed by Iraqi Peshmerga forces captured the security district including the police HQ, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

I wish good luck and happy hunting to the soldier who has gone to join the Peshmerga in the fight against those evil I. S. bastards.

British Soldier Leaves Home To Join Kurdish Fighters In The Battle Against ISIS

A 19-year-old British Soldier currently serving the British Armed Forces has reportedly left his country and traveled to the Middle East because he wants to help the Kurds in their battle against ISIS. According to the Telegraph, the soldier was stationed with the 2nd Battalion of The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment when he decided to travel to the Iraqi-Syrian border in support of the Kurds.

There are conflicting reports about the circumstances in which he left the British army and joined the Peshmerga forces. According to one report, the British soldier was stationed in Cyprus when he left the British military base there and traveled to the Middle East. In another report by Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the soldier was on leave when he decided to join the Kurdish forces.

The British soldier, whose identity has been kept under wraps, had informed his friends and family about his intention to join the Kurdish forces and told them: “these guys need our help”.

He's a dickhead and as a result of his actions the likelihood of more innocent people being killed has increased. For all he knows he could actually be working FOR ISIS.

"Oi dickhead, that village over there is controlled by ISIS, you and the other dickheads go an kill them all."

"Yeah baby! I wanna go kill evil ISIS people."

Now he really has no idea if what he's being told is even true, but what the fuck eh? He's gonna get to kill ISIS people isn't he? Fucking idiot needs to get the fuck out of there.

War is hard enough when you have professionals running it, out there it's fucked right now and that lad could end up doing anything... the only thing I hope really is that he kills as few innocents as possible.

Fighting Isis in Iraq: How British soldiers and other European troops are helping train the Peshmerga

Fighting Isis in Iraq: How British soldiers and other European troops are helping train the Peshmerga - Middle East - World - The Independent

Wearing khaki uniforms and with Kalashnikovs in their hands, Kurdish fighters broke down the door of a half-built luxury villa not far from Irbil and braced themselves, guns raised, for hostile fire from the tiled entrance hall within. To shouts of encouragement from the German soldiers outside, they poured into the house, moving from room to room until they were confident they had it secured.

Eighty miles away, supported by heavy US air bombardment, their compatriots were engaged in a savage battle to drive fighters loyal to Isis, the extreme jihadist group, further back from the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.

There was no genuine opposition to the Kurdish units sweeping through the remains of the half-built housing project – a failed up-market property development, stalled by the war with Isis that began last year – but the fighters, few of whom had body armour, were deadly serious nonetheless. They are the beneficiaries of a dramatically beefed-up training programme by soldiers from Western members of the anti-Isis coalition which was launched in February.

About 100 British soldiers are among the foreign forces operating in the Kurdish region of Iraq, at least 40 of them instructing Peshmerga fighters in vital infantry skills alongside several hundred members of the German, US, Italian, Norwegian and Dutch militaries.
