You reckon? This government only has another 9 months to run and the likelihood is that the Conservatives won't be the next government, so these pleas are likely to fall on deaf ears. And the general consensus these days is to try and level the playing field so that people don't get rich from inheritance and the lower paid get the tax breaks, so it's likely to go the other way.

I do agree with some of it though, for example I think the top level income tax rate comes in way too low, and the stamp duty limit needs to go up a bit, but not to help pensioners, just to help ordinary people who are caught by this tax due simply to rising house prices. Other than that though, I think the tax system is about as fair as it will ever get.

The elderly need the money less than us youngsters, I propose that we start taking their money away once they get to 70, they don't need it.

    They shouldn't need it.

If they made proper arrangements they should be debt free and provided for. Plus they sleep for 20 hours a day and need nothing more than Werther's Originals and gin for sustenance.

Ah you mean they shouldn't need more. Cos they still need to pay for food and heating and council tax etc plus the odd holiday. Plus we are all going to be expected to work until we are at least 80, so most older people will still be contributing until a later age. I think they (or we) should be able to enjoy some sort of retirement using the money we have built up in our pensions (I'm talking about private pensions here, not the state one) and when I become incapable then they can take whatever I have left, including the house, to pay for my care.
