    Football Summer transfers

    By Nick Rostron-Pike - @nickrostronpike:

Ray Parlour believes Arsenal won't block club captain Thomas Vermaelen's prospective move to Manchester United.

The Belgian defender has agreed to join the Red Devils this summer, according to reports, with Louis van Gaal’s side now just needing to agree a transfer fee with the north London club.

Vermaelen would become the latest in a long line of players to join one of the Gunners’ rivals, after seeing Bacary Sagna, Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy all leave the Emirates in recent seasons.

But Parlour claims it will be very difficult to stop United from landing their man.

“Thomas Vermaelen wants to play football,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “Last year he couldn’t get in the Arsenal side because Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny were superb at the back. Kieran Gibbs has improved so much he couldn’t even play him at left-back.

“When you get to a situation where a squad member wants to move, sometimes the player has more sway than the club itself.

“If he wants to play football, and an offer comes in from a club like Manchester United, then it’s hard for the club to say, ‘no, you can’t go there, we want to sell you to a club in Italy or Spain’.

“He was doing the captain’s notes last year in the Arsenal programme but not getting in the team. I can’t see that changing anytime soon. He wants to play first team football.”
Will he be the new Vidic?

    By Louise Taylor, Guardian:

Cesc Fábregas has joined Chelsea where he will be expected to become a cornerstone of José Mourinho’s reconstructed team next season.

The Spain midfielder, currently with his national side in Brazil, returns to the Premier League after Barcelona accepted an initial £27m offer from Stamford Bridge with £2.5m in add-ons based on appearances.

Arsenal declined to exercise an option to buy back the former captain they sold to Barcelona three years ago but are due a sell-on fee which may end up being £2.5m.

    Football Re: Summer transfers

    By Jack Wilson (Daily Star):

Brendan Rodgers is set to cash in on striker Fabio Borini this summer to finance a double deal for Southampton pair Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.

Borini spent last season on loan at Sunderland, and recently stated his intent to make a mark at Anfield on his return. However, Rodgers is set to rule out a Merseyside stay for the Italian after deciding to move on the £10.5m man.

Ashley Cole is also on Rodgers' radar. The left-back is weighing up a move to either Barcelona or AC Milan after finalising his exit from Chelsea.

Arsenal are plotting a move for Mario Balotelli - and they could part with Joel Campbell to get him. The Gunners are willing to hand Balotelli a huge contract at the Emirates.

Manchester United will be forced to wait before concluding a £7m deal for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen. The Gunners won't sanction his exit until they have secured a replacement for the Belgium international.

Louis Van Gaal looks set to complete a deal for another defender, however, after offering Atletico Madrid's Miranda a bumper contract. Van Gaal wants the £24m-rated Brazilian to partner Vermaelen in a new look Old Trafford defence.

United defender Alex Buttner is set to quit the club, with Luke Shaw set to move to the club this summer. Buttner is second-choice to Patrice Evra, and doesn't want to slip further down the pecking order when the Southampton man arrives.

Chelsea and United have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Bayern star Toni Kroos. The German international says he's no closer to signing a new deal with the Bundelsiga giants, promoting speculation he could quit the Allianz Arena.

The 21-year-old, who spent time on trial at Manchester United in April, made just one senior appearance for the Black Cats, as a substitute in 2011.

Laing's only other Football League experience came at Wycombe where he played 11 games on loan in 2012.

The centre-half will join Forest when his Sunderland deal expires on 1 July.

    Football Ander Herrera

Ander Herrera: Manchester United 'on the verge' of completing £29m move for Athletic Bilbao midfielder - Transfers - Football - The Independent

Manchester United have agreed to meet Ander Herrera's release clause and are close to signing the midfielder, according to multiple reports in Spain.

Radio station Cadena SER say Old Trafford bosses are keen to tie up a deal for the 24-year-old midfielder before June 30 as his buy-out clause rises from €36m (£28.7m) to €40m (£31.9m).

Marca claims Herrera is already in England and has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford worth around £2.4m-per-year, while Radio Bilbao and El Larguero say the deal will be announced today.

United were close to signing Herrera last summer but could not get a deal done on transfer deadline day.

Herrera can play in centre midfield or behind the striker and weighed in with five goals and five assists as Athletic qualified for the Champions League, finishing fourth.

    Football Re: Summer transfers

There has been much talk on BBC Radio 5 Live and TalkSport about Luis Suarez leaving Liverpool, and that there is a minimum fee release clause in his Anfield contract. His latest biting incident at the World Cup has added fuel to this fire.

A move to Spain looks most likely, with Real Madrid and Barcelona being linked with the toothy one.

Assuming FIFA don't place a domestic ban on him, he will sign for Real Madrid.

Luke Shaw has joined Man Utd.

BBC Sport - Luke Shaw: Man Utd sign Southampton defender for £27m

Southampton and England defender Luke Shaw has signed for Manchester United for £27m, rising to £31m depending on success.

United initially made a bid of £27m for the 18-year-old left-back in May, but the offer was rejected.

Shaw told the Saints he wanted to move to United at the end of last season.

Shaw became the youngest player to feature at the 2014 World Cup when he played the full game in England's 0-0 draw with Costa Rica.

Arsenal rumours, by Tom Bryant (Guardian):

Football transfer rumours: Arsenal in for Rémy, Balotelli and Mandzukic? | Football | theguardian.com

Arsène Wenger wants two more strikers in the next month or so, having ushered “strikers” Nicklas Bendtner and Ju Young Park to the door marked “Do One”. He has apparently decided Loïc Rémy, Mario Balotelli and Mario Mandzukic are as good as anyone.

The Milan chairman, Adriano Galliani, though has begged to differ. Like an aged grandfather attempting to get to grips with modern life, Galliani has been talking to his club’s website. After repeatedly asking it “to do the googles”, he has finally given up and said Balotelli is going nowhere.

Undeterred, Wenger will turn his attention to the fallout from the Starvin’ Luis Suárez affair. Should the Liverpool striker be about to depart for Barcelona or Real Madrid, then Wenger will chase Alexis Sánchez, Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata around Spain in an unseemly fashion. He’s also on the lookout for a new midfielder, and thinks Lars Bender might be his man despite having a £15m offer last summer slung back in his face like a wet fish. Next, he’ll head to Newcastle to lure Mathieu Debuchy down south. Alan Pardew will ask for Carl Jenkinson and a sack of cash in return.
