Default Changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act

There have been some changes to the dangerous dogs act that come in force as from today (13th May 2014). The main change seems to be that your dog now has to be under control whilst on your own property and you can be prosecuted if someone feels threatened by your dog.

Advice - Changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act - Advice for Owners | National Animal Welfare Trust

Manage your dog when someone knocks
This change in legislation should be a wake up call to all dog owners to ensure their dogs are under control when they open the door otherwise they risk committing a criminal offence.
The new rules seem to particularly cover visitors to your house, such as postmen and delivery drivers.

    ...

When a stranger calls at our house Spud throws himself at the glass door full pelt, the caller will knock, immediately hear a thud and see a 6 foot ginger splat. Most people think this is funny and he has quite a few fans but we have had one or two that have said they got a bit of a shock. As far as I can tell this is okay as long as he's under control or removed from the area when the door is opened.

In France people stay at the gate, so I don't know what Yellow would do. He might be a bit simple, but he's a good guard dog because he only barks if someone comes to the gate or he sees the school bus.

People should, must be fully responsible for their own mutts, common sense.

I have yet to see a pooch who does not bark when someone comes to the property and rings the bell.

We had 2 trained aggressive guard dogs at one time and they were mental if not held back, yet around family they were pussiz, I would NEVER trust them or any dog though.

You always get someone who says ‘their' dog would not do anything wrong, they do not know such, they cannot see into the future.
