    Default Holiday plans!

Who's doing what and where this year?

Everything is just so expensive nowadays. Gone are the days of cheap flights and breaks away. I'd like to either go to Rome, Barcelona, Marrakesh, or Malta, but I need to find a cheap way of getting there first!

Has anyone else got plans for this year?

    Nobody?

We're going to Disneyland Paris in just over two weeks. It's too expensive and inconvenient to fly, so we're driving the seven hours instead. It's my husband's step mum's 60th, so it's a treat from them. I don't think people realise how big France is, so they think Paris is just a short drive away. For us it's an overnight stay there and back if we drive.

I know how big France is because I have travelled across it. And if you consider it is at least as long from north to south as Great Britain, but at least 2 or 3 times as wide, it's a pretty big place by western European standards. Mind you, having said that, it takes us about 7 hours to go to the Midlands of England, but that's because we are travelling through the country lengthwise instead of across the middle.

Anyway, we are going to Mallorca in April, which I can't wait for, and plan hopefully to go somewhere in America like New York or something later in the year if we can.

Yeah, France is massive. We're a bit more inland now, so it doesn't take quite as long to get to Paris as it did, but that seven hours is still straight through the middle on easy motorway roads.

    New York, that's exciting!

Yeah, it would be, but I am finding cities more and more tiring now so it's a thought to go. But I want to see the Big Apple at some point in my life and I also want to travel on the train to Washington DC, so we could do that as well.

    What do you mean, tiring?

We find it difficult getting excited about places to visit because we don't like beaches and I'm not into walking around looking at 'city sights' any more.

Walking about in cities - gets very sore on the feet. Plus it would be hotels whereas we prefer self-catering, for various reasons.

I don't know what or if we're doing anything. I'd like to get away but we've got a lot going on with the house, Spud and the lad at the mo.

Talking of the lad though he's thinking of going interrailing. I'd never heard of it, it's where you buy one ticket and get 22 days train travel anywhere in Europe. He fancies Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and ending in Croatia to do a festival.

Self catering makes me panic. For the last couple of years we've taken my family to Villas in Spain and we've basically been slaves, so it puts me off now.

I'm not saying we'll never do it again, but for now I want hotels.
