Interesting how accents vary across our islands. I can tell the difference between someone from here and someone from just 30-ish miles away (any direction).

I don't think that I have a strong accent, but others have said in the past that I have.

    ?

'Working-class Cambridge' is a mild mix, halfway between Midlands/London ish. Anglian.

People always think they don't have an accent themselves, but really everyone does, as to not have an accent would mean that there is one, "proper" way to pronounce words, which there isn't, unless you count received pronunciation, which hardly anyone speaks nowadays.

The range of accents in Scotland is staggering. There is Aberdeen, which is different from Dundee, and then in between we have the Mearns and Angus which are a subtle combination of the two. My favourite accent is Edinburgh, or Fife, which my grandparents spoke. My grandad used to call a caravan a "kirryvon" and they always said "ken?" at the end of sentences.

Lohi - do you get accent variations across Finland?

Timey - are you between Dundee + Aberdeen?

No, we're nearer Aberdeen, so the accent is primarily Aberdonian here, although the accent is much diluted since my younger days, mainly due to influx of people for the oil work.

So do you have north/south or east/west or urban/rural differences?
