But what does that include? If it includes rent/mortgage I'd say it was pretty low.

It includes everything Timey, even holidays.

It suprises me because I did'nt think the average wage left that amount after deductions.

Well, it does, and it doesn't. I think the average household wage would be enough for that but with not much left over, but how many people are saving these days? To be able to afford that the average wage for the household would only have to be around £20k to £25k. I'm note sure what the average wage is, but with costs for fuel, rent/mortgage etc being what they are today, that can easily be racked up in a week. Ours would be higher than that and there's only two of us.

Is it for a family? I have no idea about one wage, but two wages would cover it, even on minimum wage, wouldn't it?

The cost of living is ridiculously expensive, even before holidays n' stuff, so that figure doesn't shock or surprise me. I noticed it included petrol. We don't use a car for work, but we still manage over Ä30 a week in diesel so people who need their cars for work must be spending a fortune.

That leaves nothing left for life insurance or private pensions...(I dont think they have been included)
I heard on the radio it mention that the average household cost for food and none alcoholic drinks was around £55. I spend more than that for two of us, and I spent more when my son was at home.
Included was £12pw for holidays... where would that take you to... Blackpool?

I think one of the biggest rises was for petrol.

This report includes everyone, singles, marrieds, families, people living in expensive and cheaper parts of the country... I think they have averaged it out for everyone.

Well, whatever, it looks reasonable to me, and whether there are other costs to allow for I don't know, but the average household income after taxes is £26,000, which would cover that with a bit to spare. Plus, a lot people spend more than they earn, so the figures don't shock me at all, as Breezy says, the cost of living is very high in a country like the UK.

I never go out drinking or anything because I just don't have the cash
