The wheels have started turning to bring about a film featuring Houdini and Doyle, and also a TV series about the duo.

DreamWorks have bought a screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski entitled Voices From the Dead which tells the story of Houdini and Doyle teaming up, along with a female psychic to solve crime in 1920s New York.

The pair were real life friends for some time, and stories of their supernatural adventures have been written previously.

Just days after the film was announced, Syfy have revealed that they are also working on a TV show about the crime fighting duo which will be based on a graphic novel written by actor and magician Steve Valentine. The comic is entitled Among the Spirits and that will be the name of Syfy's new show. The title comes from the book Houdini wrote himself, A Magician Among the Spirits.

In the TV show Houdini and Doyle team up with a female cop rather than a psychic. The only bad side seems to be that the show is going to be produced by E1 Entertainment, who also produce Haven. Apart from the locations the production values of Haven are really quite poor, shit special effects etc...

Considering the steampunk quality you would expect from a Houdini/Doyle show I'd have thought it would be better if it looked more like Syfy's success story, Sanctuary.
