Default BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend

BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, which kicks off the UK festival season this summer, is coming to Dundee across the weekend of 13 and 14 May 2006.

Major artists including Pink, Primal Scream, Keane, Sugababes and The Streets will play to 30,000 people at Camperdown Park during two days of live bands and world class DJs. The event will be broadcast on Radio 1 all weekend.
Radio 1's Big Weekend is a totally free event and 15,000 tickets will be available for each day. Tickets are available from Wednesday 26 April at bbc.co.uk/radio1 and each successful applicant is allowed a pair of tickets for either Saturday or Sunday. The clear majority of tickets will go to those in Dundee and Scotland, with the remainder being made available across the UK.

On Saturday 13 May the doors open and the event gets going with a massive lineup. Radio 1 DJs including Chris Moyles, Colin and Edith, Scott Mills, Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe will be introducing the bands on stage and broadcasting live from the event.

In the week preceding the event, Radio 1 will broadcast a series of shows from across Scotland as a build-up to Radio 1's Big Weekend in Dundee.
On Saturday night Radio 1 will come live from Club London, Dundee for a mammoth 6 hour dance fest with DJ sets from the likes of Radio 1 DJ's Judge Jules, Fergie, Pete Tong, Dave Pearce and dance star Mylo. Radio 1's Big Weekend will appear on BBC THREE on 13 and 14 May featuring performances from artists recorded earlier in the day.

The two programmes will be transmitted on the Saturday and Sunday evenings with hosts and TX times to be confirmed. The whole event has a major online and interactive presence including:

TV coverage on interactive TV and streamed in broadband online each day from 5.00pm. Highlights packages running on interactive TV for a week after the event and videos of full sets streamed in broadband online for a week after the event.

Photos and full coverage updated all weekend online and on Radio 1's mobile phone site. Photos and blogs from listeners who attend the event.

Edith Bowman, Radio 1 DJ said: "Again the line up for Radio 1's big weekend gets stronger and stronger and shows the variety of music we play. I'm looking forward to seeing Snow Patrol back on their old stomping ground, Primal Scream will be quite special and I'm well excited that two of my favourite bands, Bloc Party and We Are Scientists, are also on the bill."

Jason Carter, Executive Producer of Live Music & Events Radio 1 said: "Radio 1's Big Weekend has the most amazing lineup ever this year and with the extra capacity for 30,000 people it's going to be a great weekend in Dundee. We're really pleased that we're able to bring all this music to Scotland. If you can't make it down the live music will be on Radio 1 across the two days."

Dundee Lord Provost John Letford said: "The excitement and anticipation around Dundee about Radio 1's Big Weekend has been building since the city was confirmed as this year's venue. This will be a tremendous weekend for both Dundee and Radio 1, and the city will be the focus of massive national attention. There will be important spin-off benefits for the city and its vibrant music scene and the legacy of this event will have a positive impact for years to come."
