BBC Radio ordered off Russian FM
The English language service offereb by the BBC has been taken off Russian radio station Russian FM. It had been told by Bolshoye Radio - it's distribution partner- to remove all BBC content or facw being shut down.
Although it can't be heard on FM the Russian service by the BBC can still be heard on the Internet. Executives at the BBC said it would appeal against the decision.
Richard Sambrook, Director of BBC Global News said: "The BBC entered into the relationship with Bolshoye Radio in good faith. We cannot understand how the licence is now interpreted in a way that does not reflect the original and thorough concept documents."
He then said that the license agreement allowed for 18% of Bolshoye's content to be foreign produced.
Financial group Finam who are Bolshoye Radio's owners told the BBC that Russia's media regulators required that all programming be produced by the station itself.
