I think he is right. Maybe not barbarians though, but philistines possibly.

With the name Ben, it's unlikely that I'm gonna be a philistine.

    (Bad joke i know!)

On a more serious note, I think Paxman is being a cock about this. He may think he's above us oiks because he enjoys looking at art and the majority of this country doesn't share that with him, but he isn't. He is doing EXACTLY what the people who love watching Britain's Got Talent are doing, he is enjoying what he personally likes. What he likes is no better or worse than anything else.

He may think he's looking down at people, but in reality he's just looking across at them on the same level.

    The cock!

You are probably right Dayus. I think the essence of what he is saying is right though. We do work too much I think to appreciate some of the things that are on offer out there.

I think what Paxman is saying is right to a certain extent

I think as a nation entertainment and art has been dumbed down

Lots of people are too busy these days to enjoy culture, and TV has gone downhill a lot since the reality shows have taken hold

The thing is though that people obviously want to watch the shit otherwise it wouldn't be on the TV in the first place

I do get depressed at what people call entertainment these days though, but I suppose its none of my business

Yes Paxman is a bit of a snob, but I like the guy. He says what he thinks and you know where you stand with him, and I think that takes some balls these days

And the Chavs will take over, it's just a matter of time

People don't necessarily want to watch shit, they just aren't given much of an alternative.

Mr Paxman said: "Watching TV is the most popular leisure activity in Britain. I find that very depressing."
In January, thousands tuned into his BBC TV series on the Victorians.

    How ironic.

Btw, nice bit of "art" yer lookin' at there Mr Paxman, you dirty boy!
