Good news and bad news today, Genesis have announced at a press conference their intentions of reforming and embarking on a small European and North American tour.
The bad news? No Peter Gabriel or Steve Hackett in the line up.
The line up reforming is the one that covers the largest Genesis era 1977 - 1994, which is Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks ( who are Genesis on record) and also Chester Thompson and Daryl Stuermer who have completed the live line up for the past 19 years.
Collins left the band back in 1996, prior to the recording of Genesis' last studio album 'Calling All Stations' which featured Ray Wilson, formerly of Stiltskin, on vocals. Gabriel left the band in 1975 and Hackett in 1977, they were part of the most anticipated line up which many fans have been hoping would reunite to tour once more. In the bands recent press conference they explained that Gabriel wasn't ready to commit to a reunion just yet and dismissed Hackett rejoining the band without Gabriel to complete that famous line up. A future reunion has not been dismissed entirely, watch this space.

The band have been hinting towards their plans for the shows, nothing very radical, with a set list most likely very similar to their last few tours with Collins. They do state no material from 'Calling All Stations' will be played though. They wouldn't indulge anyone in any specific details regarding the visual aspect of the show, but I am hoping for a whole new stage set, unlike their last tour with Wilson where the stage set was simply recycled from their previous tours.
The tour has the working title 'Turn It On Again' and would seem to be a greatest hits tour. It uses the same title as their 1999 greatest hits compilation, and images from their 'Platinum Collection' released two years ago. It was speculated that's how long this reunion has been on the cards, and the band have finally decided to stop waiting for Gabriel to agree to join them.
The band have promised to play material dating as far back as 1973, but have crushed many fans hopes of hearing them play the epic 'Supper's Ready' in it's entirety. We'll just have to wait untill Gabriel finally gives in to public pressure to hear that one again, unfortunately.
The European leg of the tour only includes 20 dates with just two of them in the UK, Old Trafford in the north and Twickenham in the south. Tickets for the UK shows go on sale on 24th November, here is the full list of European dates:
