Went to see The Police play in Manchester last night and was well impressed.
I got into them when I was very young, must have been 8 or 9 when a mate of my Dads lent us the Regatta De Blanc album. Then my Dad bought a copy and me and my brother basically nicked it!
We used to play it all the time. We even wanted to be The Police although there were only two of us
I was always pretending to be Stewart Copeland, who is the best drummer in the World EVER!
I never thought I would get to see them play live as they were only together from 1977 to 1984, and I was still too young to go to concerts then
When I heard they were reforming for a tour I was well chuffed and was on the phone first thing to get tickets. I still managed to get tickets miles away from the stage though. I don't know how these people get tickets right near the front
They put on a great show. Sting has still got the voice, although he didn't sing quite as high pitched as he used to all the way through. I think Andy Summers used the opportunity to get as many solos as possible in, as in the past the band didn't let him do any
The highlight for me was seeing Stewart Copeland play. He is truly amazing. A fantastic drummer and you never get the feeling he is showing off. He has restraint too. He also has the biggest collection of cymbals I have seen, some really weird things that looked like huge pizza cutters
I thought they were excellent from start to finish, maybe a little too much noodling on a few songs, but it didn't spoil it for me
The tracks that stood out for me were 'every little thing she does is magic' (even though it's not normally one of my favs), and 'regatta de blanc'. The break in the middle of this song is fantastic, and they played that bit twice because they like playing it too. Probably the best song in the World without proper lyrics
Listen to the song and tell me you don't want to be a drummer. From about 1:50 to 2:10 could be my favourite 20 seconds of music
I know Mr. M and Zombie Mastermind went, so what did you think?
I was on the phone before the phone lines actually opened and I was also on the internet, but my tickets were still right near the back.
It's not the price, what I don't get is how they manage to get through to the ticket office so fast

Pre-sales are a bitch, through the fan clubs and stuff, competition winners etc.
I thought the gig was real horror-show!
I loved it, apart from the extended improv' segments that really took the momentum out of a couple of tunes.
"Walking on the moon" gave me the chills. It's the minimalism of the song that gets me, combined with the feel good lyrics. I remember the viddy on TOTP and that's what got me in to them along with "Dee Doo-doo-doo, etc"
I had an amazing view of Stewart Copeland - to the side and slightly behind. I got to see all his toys and his technique is so fluidy and effortless.
I think the animosity is still there between Sting and Mr Copeland. During "So lonely" sting changed the lyrics to "Welcome to the Stewart Copeland show!"
What's a bit of inter-band tension when there's millions to be made?
£40.00 a head. 15 thousand peeps in attendance each night. They be rakin' it in!
Good on 'em! I am so glad I finally got to see one of the bands on my "Top five list of bands I would most like to see - but can't because they are dead or have split up" list.
They weren't just going through the motions either, they all seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves.
As did I.
They also sold a tasty range of old-skool t-shirts. Yummy!
And that was that!
Now sting can get back to his lute and Mr Copeland can get back to his movie soundtracks and producer job. Not sure what Andy Summers does these days, I'm sure he has an allotment somewhere though.
Thanks Police-blokes!
You rocked my face!
