I did that once. Never again though - at least not in France.
Every hotel was booked up and we spent half the night trying to find places to sleep. When we finally did find somewhere, there wasn't any food available. Remember to eat before 10pm (or you'll starve) and be prepared to stay in some dirty two star hotel (two star in France is more like a one star in the UK).
Which part of France are you going to Gemo? We went along the route from Calais and ended up close to Brittany.

I'd like to go to Brittany. Good, Celtic place.

I never made it quite as far as Brittany. My mum called and wanted us to pick her up from Cleethorpes (in England), so we had to drive straight there.
I want to go to Normandy sometime this summer. I think it's lovely around that area (especially the beaches at night - there's something very eerie about them though). My son is desperate to go for the war stuff as well, so I'll be forced to give him a long history lesson in the car there and back.

Ooh, yes, that would be interesting, to see the beaches and places like Caen, where there were long battles after D-day.

Yeah, we went all over that area. I was attempting to quickly see as much as I could in one day, so didn't get to the beaches until nighttime. God, I've never felt so jumpy in my life! My husband is a bit of a wuss, so he really wanted to get back in the car and go where there were people and light.
I was expecting it to be lit a bit (because of maybe restaurants/ homes or something along the front), but it was pitch black and sorta abandoned (it was coming up to winter when we went). The road ran out and with it being dark, I didn't fancy getting out of the car (I'd spooked myself with the graveyard visits beforehand, so I made my husband drive as far onto the beach as possible). We walked down a boat ramp or something, then I tried to adjust my eyes and saw a bunker along the beach. I was absolutely pooing myself because I really didn't expect stuff from the war to be still laying about. It was a really eerie feeling that late at night - and soooo quiet.
It's like that all over that area. I don't think it's been kept like that for tourists, they just haven't been able to clear all the damage from the war up. As you're driving, you can see so much damage - it's fascinating, yet a bit sad to see at the same time.

It's very quiet here tonight.
Well, it's time for my bed. G'night.

Re: The morning, goodnight and hello thread part 3
Night Timey.
I'm not out.
I was preparing lists of things I need to get before my family arrive in two weeks. I like to have as little stress as possible while they're here (they cause enough as it is ), so I plan all the meals n' activities, then get the food and entrance tickets in beforehand.
