Proms, last night of.
I trust we all did our duty as good Britons, watched and sang along with the Last Night, last night, as did I?
It still gives me that feeling of belonging to the country of my accidental birth and a momentary feeling of pride that I know a 'deserter' shouldn't feel.
KT Tunstall was on the other side, but she leaves me cold.
The old men of music came on after the Prom had finished, but I couldn't get into it and went to bed, still humming Rule Britannia.
I remember Britain when it was still Great, but younger generations never knew what it was like.

Re: Proms, last night of.
Britain was never Great. It was a country like any other. Most of the so-called "greatness" was based upon racism, keeping the working classes in their "place" and sunjgating other countries where we had not business being.
I watched the proms because I love the music.

Re: Proms, last night of.
I shall ignore the remarks about our "duty" and just say that the last night of the proms always bores me silly, so no I didn't watch it.![]()
What a hoot!
Re: Proms, last night of.
I can't stand all that flag waving.

Re: Proms, last night of.
To you maybe it was ordinary, but you weren't around at the time and have only history to work from.
I'm unsure where you get the 'racist' idea from, so I'll put that down to lack of knowledge.
The working classes knew their place and it worked much better than it does now. Subjugating and trading with other countries was part of building an Empire, without which, the standard of living in Britain today would be horrendous.
Anytime Ern, but we don't keep much sugar in, so you'll have to make do with the other.
Where's your sense of belonging? I thought I was the deserter!Good on yer for being honest.
Something I agree with, if they don't appreciate good music, they shouldn't watch or listen!
I despise flag waving, but there are times when it makes sense, as long as it's done with the right intent. Proms last night wouldn't be the same without it. I did note there were flags of many other nations waving there.
Wales, Scotland and N Ireland were all given a shot at joining in and contributing, so nobody was left out.

Re: Proms, last night of.
I remember the one after the Falklands war , all the young Tories going mental, thinking we actually ruled the waves again I think they may still be doing the encores now.
