Does anyone like doing arty type things?

I was thinking of having a go at pickling an apple. I've done it before and it's quite funny.

What you do is, take the skin off an apple and then sort of carve it into a face shape with eyes. nose etc, the sort of things a face has.

Then you put the apple in a really really salty solution of just salt dissolved in water and leave it overnight, this draws all the moisture out of the apple.

Then, you put the apple in a warm place, like in an airing cupboard to completely dry out.

When it's ready it'll feel all spongy and the 'face' will look really life like.

I read your post and thought about doing it (before mr m's post ). I've never heard of that - it sounds fun (..erm...for my son ops: )....I'll have a go and take a photo of my creation

..but yes - I love doing stuff like that. My son has a huge Halloween party (his birthday) - so I 'go to town' on the pumpkin faces.
