Blake the spur-thighed tortoise was taken captive from Gallipoli, Turkey during a First World War battle. A British soldier stuffed the poor reptile into his kitbag in 1915 and took him back home to Norfolk.

The old soldier jossed-it about 30 years ago and since then Blake has been held prisoner by Marion Skinner, who says she can no longer keep Blake because of her bad back.

The old tortoise, which must be 97-years-old at the very least, is being fostered by the Norfolk Tortoise Club. The old bugger is still getting his leg over despite being half-blind, he successfully mated with a female only last year. They should change his name to Des O'Connor.
