    Default Laden Down School Kidz.

For most parents, it’s an achievement to get the children to school in time with everything they need (homework, the signed consent forms, the right sports kit, musical instruments, the cake for the charity fundraiser).

Have you noticed how some kidz go to school laden down with stuff?

We even see the littlunz around here totting their 'kitbagz'.

I just wonder how much of their 'kit' they actually need for that day?

There's no need for that many books to be taken, even one of the mums says in the article that her lad takes all of his books because he can't be arsed finding out what books are required the next day. Anyways, as kindles grow in popularity the kids will be able to download all their textbooks onto that, it's happening at universities so no reason why it can't happen at high schools and junior schools.

I don't ever remember havin to carry that much around.. We had our exercise books for the lessons (1 book per lesson, 6 lessons a day) but they don't weigh very much. The only time we took exercise books home was for homework .. and the only lesson that usually required a textbook was maths. None of us ever complained that it was heavy.

Most school bags come on wheels for the littler kids. My son was taking a huge amount to school right from starting infants. I didn't know what he needed and what he didn't, so he'd take the lot every day.

He still takes a lot, but he comes home for dinner so only takes what he needs for the morning, then changes his bag for the afternoon. I don't know how he'd cope if he had to pack his bag for the day because his bag is always heavy, never light. He has up to seven lessons a day. For each lesson he has an A4 exercise book and possibly a work book, plus a text book. Then he has a folder of different sheets of paper (containing, small squares, medium squares and large squares depending on the lesson), along with clear covers - he has to take that with him to every lesson. Then there's his pencil case, his planner and his diary. He doesn't have a games kit, but takes an extra bag for swimming.
