    Default Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree

    Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree...
I've suspected for some time now that Allison Goldfrapp is the next Kate Bush. I'm sure she is suitably sick of being compared to people by now, but I'm sure the comparison sticks. However, only in so far as I believe that if Kate Bush had been introduced into music at this point, Goldfrapp is the kind of music she'd be making.

However, there really is no comparison. Goldfrapp are original, funky, sexual 'audio-nauts'; writing music for a Science Fiction television show that will never be made. Cooler than absolute zero, and as sexy as that first fumble down a young girls undergarments when you're fifteen. It feels good but you're not quite sure what you're supposed to do...

Seventh Tree is there Forth studio album for the 'Frappsters' and marks a sharp shift from the usual Electronica. Gone are the thunderous night club classic beats of 'Train'. No more the Electro-Glam rock from 'Supernature'. Seventh Tree is a whole new beast from the duo. And not one to miss.

Unlike their older albums, Seventh Tree is a complete sensual experience, and a lot more in touch with nature and - indeed - 'Supernature' than the previous album. There is a moody, melancholia to Allison's vocals that starts out in dark settings, only to be lifted by the end. This is dark folk, with just a touch of psychedelia. Like the second track, "Little Bird" that channels more than a touch of "Strawberry Fields".

There's more of the simple, and clean musical composing at work here. Will Gregory seems to strip away most of the grandeur of the previous albums, to the effect of showcasing Allison's amazing vocals. This is effortless, and it works beautifully. Like the opening track, "Clowns" that opens the album with simple string arrangements. Beautiful!

But there are some classically Goldfrapp tracks on here to. The James-Bond-style, "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" that you can almost imagine the dancing silhouettes of women, fired out of Waltham PPK's, over Albert Broccoli's name. Perhaps they can compose a song with 'Quantum Solace' in there - just a thought...

This is great, and well worth a purchase. The album hits shelves on the 25th February, and you can pre-order yours now from Amazon by clicking below. There first single "A&E" is out now...

Goldfrapp also start a UK tour on the 4th of March. I've already got my tickets for the 23rd of June at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. If you'll be there, let me know...

Here's the new single A&E. It is a bit Kate Bushy, damn good too.
