Howard Jones
Went to see the old 80's keyboard wizard last night, sadly I wasn't really impressed.
I've got a soft spot for early eighties new wave stuff. Punk was very important musically, but I think a lot of better stuff emerged out of it setting the scene in the early eighties. Jones wasn't particularly influential but I did like the whole synth concept and his 'we can overcome' sentiment. I was only 10.ops:
The thing I liked most about early eighties new wave was it's removal as far as possible from the modern pop/rock origins in jazz and blues. I was unimpressed then last night to find Jones putting a little too much 'boogey-woogey' in his piano performance and his poor attempt to put a 'jazz twist' on his old songs.
The set was simply an acoustic one with Jones on piano accompanied by a bloke who looked like a builder on acoustic 12-string guitar. I believe Jones does still tour doing a full electric show and I think this would be much better. Not all was bad, the old hits were still played and Hide and Seek, which he performed at Live Aid, was a highlight. Along with New Song and What is Love. I wouldn't watch him again though, unless he was doing the full synth show. (And hopefully had that bald mime artist with him! )

Whenever I think of Howard Jones I always picture him in a really bad pale blue suit.
What's his style like at the moment?
Not good I'm afraid.Originally Posted by Ck

He has very small features which make him look like he has a regular sized head with a small face in the middle of it, like Jimmy Carr!

pmsl!!! I can see what you mean![]()

Re: Howard Jones
i like his song "what is love?"
Orbis non sufficit
'I'd sit alone and watch your light,
My only friend through teenage nights,
And everything I had to know, I heard it on my radio'
Re: Howard Jones
Howard is tops, What Is Love was one of his very first singles.
Re: Howard Jones
I'd be much more interested in seeing his synth show, particularly which old ones he was using.
(I think he used to have a Sequential Circuits Pro-One, and I still have mine.)
I like what I'd heard of him.
Re: Howard Jones
I'd just want to see that weird mime artist he used to have on with him.![]()
